Biography.

Jeannette van Schaik is often praised for her warm, generous and technically secure voice,
which combines a powerful sound with lyrical refinement and soaring top notes.
She is a singer with charm, noblesse and sensitivity, which together with her great musicality
gives her the ability to identify with a role, both vocally and on stage.

Young Dutch soprano Jeannette van Schaik is a recent graduate of the prestigious Dutch National Opera Academy and is being seen as one of Netherlands’ great emerging vocal talents, known for her luscious voice and heartfelt interpretation.

Her debut on the opera stage as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni was met with high praise. Already during her studies she made her debut at the Dutch National Opera as 1st Madrigalist in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut as part of their Young Artist program. Immediately after followed her international role debut as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg under the baton of Karel Deseure.

Other roles have included amongst others; Contessa in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, 1e Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Click in the Dutch premier of Hanna Kulenty’s modern opera The Mother of Black Winged Dreams, Gretel in Humperdink’s Hänsel und Gretel at the NJO Muziekzomer Festival under the baton of Antony Hermus and Governess in a concert version of Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. She sang Papagena and served as cover for the role of Pamina in Holland Opera’s musical theatre production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte/Requiem and made her role debut as Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata at the Mélodies sur Arzon Festival in France.
Furthermore Jeannette portrayed three roles at the worldy renowned series of the NTR ZaterdagMatinee at the Royal Concertgebouw; Wheel of Fortune Woman in Frederick Delius’ A Village to Romeo and Juliet, Anna in Verdi’s Nabucco and Das Mädchen in Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten.

Recent highlights include a very successful role debut as Ellen Orford in a spectacular seaside production of Britten’s Peter Grimes at WadOpera in a regie by Paul Carr.
She did the New Years concert tour and a tv-broadcast of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Residentie Orkest and sang Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in several performances throughout Holland and in the Konzerthaus Berlin. Next to the world-premiere of Alissa Firsova’s Lieder der Welt, she sang Strauss’ famous Vier letzte lieder with the Camerata RCO (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) in the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.

Last season her debut album Elysium was released at 7MNTN Records label, which she recorded with her duopartner pianist Peter Nilsson. The CD contains a collection of romantic artsongs by Respighi, Korngold and Strauss and was highly acclaimed by the Dutch press.

Season 22/23 Jeannette will mark her return to the ZaterdagMatinee in the roles of Pani Pásková & Chocholka in Janácek’s Cunning Little Vixen with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Karina Canellakis and the New Years Concert Tour with the Noord Nederlands Orkest under the baton of Ed Spanjaard. She will perform amongst other concerts Beethoven’s 9th Symphony under the baton of Sander Teepen at Concertgebouw De Vereeniging in Nijmegen and make her debut in Mahler’s Symphony no.2 in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with Arjan Tien.
Furthermore she will make her debut as Kitty Oppenheimer in a festival production of John Adam’s modern opera Doctor Atomic with USConcert.

Jeannette has an extensive concert repertoire which she performs regularly, including Strauss’ Vier letzte lieder, Poulenc’s Gloria, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Mahler’s Symphony no.4, Mendelssohn’s Elias, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Beethoven Symphony no.9, Mozart’s Requiem and Krönungsmesse, Händel’s Messiah and the Weihnachtsoratorium and both St. Matthew and St. John’s Passion by J.S. Bach.

She has collaborated with orchestras such as the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest and Nederlands Kamerorkest, the Residentie Orkest, Tel Aviv Symphony Orchestra, Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, Nationaal Jeugd Orkest and the Sweelinck Baroque Orkest and had the pleasure of working with conductors such as Giancarlo Andretta, Sir Mark Elder, Huba Hollóköi, Karel Deseure, Clark Rundell, Paul Nadler, Alexander Joel, Markus Stenz and Antony Hermus and with stage-directors such as Waut Koeken, Javier Lopéz Piñón, David Prins, Andrea Breth, Alexander Oliver, Sybrand van der Werf and Paul Carr.


Jeannette is a recipient of the Bayreuth Stipendium Prize 2018, awarded to a promising young artist by the Dutch Wagner Society. Recently she was one of the Finalists of the inaugural By Voice Competition - London.

She earned her degree in voice cum laude from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she studied with Sasja Hunnego and David Bollen. At the Dutch National Opera Academy, she was being coached by Ira Siff, Nathalie Doucet and Peter Nilsson.


Since 2019 Jeannette is being represented by Robert Jan Haitink at K und K Wien Artists for general management worldwide.
